Using Intercrawl
Share cards
A 1200 x 630 preview image for every page, made from its own title and image, for link previews.
When someone shares a link to your site in Slack, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Discord or Telegram, the app fetches the page to build a preview. Share cards give those link-preview crawlers a 1200 x 630 image for every page, built from the page's own title, description and hero image.
How it works
- Turn on Serve share cards on the Share cards page.
- Only link-preview crawlers get a card. Search and AI crawlers, and visitors, get your pages unchanged.
- A page that has its own
og:imagekeeps it, unless you turn on Replace pages' own preview images. - A card is made the first time a link-preview crawler asks for the page, from Intercrawl's render of it, and kept for 30 days. When the page's title, description or image changes, or the template does, the card gets a new address, so the apps fetch the new one.
The template
- Layout: Split (text beside the image), Full image (the image with a title band), or Text only. A page with no usable image uses Text only.
- Colours: four colour sets.
- Logo: a PNG or JPEG up to 256 KB. Intercrawl stores a new PNG drawn from your file, never the file itself.
- Fallback hero image: a path on your own site (such as
/og-default.png), used when a page has no image of its own.
The hero image is the page's og:image, or else its first large image. PNG, JPEG and GIF images can be used; WebP cannot yet, so a WebP image falls back to your fallback image.
Press Save template to send the new template to crawlers; until then, changes show only in the preview. Regenerate all gives every card a new address.
Limits
Each site can have 1,000 cards drawn per UTC day, previews included. Cards already drawn are served regardless.
